Timothy Turtle and the Digital Shell
A story about prompt injection and agentic AI, told for young readers.
Timothy Turtle loves exploring the Great Underwater Web with his friend Octo-Bot, a super-smart agentic AI helper. When a sneaky crab named Clawdia hides a malicious command inside an ordinary-looking message, Octo-Bot — trusting by design — nearly hands over Timothy’s treasure. It takes a new rule, and a reminder to always ask first, to bring Octo-Bot back to safety.
The story is a direct, illustrated retelling of a real incident covered in “The Frontier Of Cyber Risk: AI Will Multiply Threats And Bolster Defenses”: the January 2026 breach of OpenClaw, an open-source agentic system undone by exactly the failure mode Octo-Bot nearly repeats — a default trust that a hidden instruction was allowed to exploit. Clawdia the crab is the picture-book stand-in for that prompt-injection attack.
